Lightning's side effects
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lightning direct effects are perceptible and can be spectacular : flashes of lighting, thunder, tearing of structures, fusion of conductive metals, explosions of materials, fire …However, side effects as transient electrical disturbances which are less obvious can directly affect the functioning of the electric and electronic equipment of the installations.

These surge voltages with huge amplitudes, lasting between the micro and the millisecond and of several thousand volts, are created either by direct impacts on the exposed outside lines or by electromagnetic radiation, or by a rise of the potential of the earth.

They reach the wired networks. From then, we can observe several kinds of disorders which are going to appear on equipment connected to the disrupted networks: destruction or embrittlement of electronic components, destructions of printed circuits, blocking or disturbance of functioning, accelerated ageing.
